Global theme park attendance has officially surpassed pre-pandemic levels in 2025, with the top 25 theme park groups reporting a combined 252 million visitors in 2024, a 5.4% increase over 2023 and 2.1% above the 2019 peak. The recovery signals a strong rebound for the amusement industry and has triggered a wave of new investment in major attractions.
The recovery has been uneven across regions. North American and European parks have fully recovered and are setting new records, driven by domestic tourism and premium experience demand. Asian parks, particularly in China, are still recovering from extended pandemic restrictions but showing strong month-over-month growth. Middle Eastern parks are the standout performers, with several locations reporting 50%+ growth year-over-year.
"The recovery has fundamentally changed visitor expectations," said an industry analyst. "Visitors now demand higher-quality experiences, better food options, shorter queues, and more immersive attractions. Parks that invested during the downturn are reaping the rewards."
The recovery is driving unprecedented investment in new attractions. Globally, over $12 billion in new theme park attractions are currently under construction or in final planning stages. Roller coasters account for the largest share, with 47 major coaster projects scheduled to open in 2025-2026. Ferris wheel projects are also booming, with 18 wheels exceeding 80 meters in various stages of development worldwide.
Manufacturers are reporting record order books. China Rides, for example, has confirmed orders extending through 2027, with particular strength in Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian markets. The company has doubled its production capacity in response to sustained demand growth.
